Psychiatrist based in Cambridge
Based in the beautiful city of Cambridge, I have been a psychiatrist for twenty-seven years. I provide help and treatment for a range of psychiatric conditions such as depression and anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), and psychosis.
I provide structured clinical assessments covering all these issues and make it my goal to be approachable, sympathetic and practical in terms of the help that can be offered.
If you are reading this, you may well be one of those people who are unsure about seeking help with their mental health. It is entirely natural to be hesitant when it comes to thinking about seeing a psychiatrist. This could be because of some negative myths associated with psychiatry, or uncertainty about what exactly a psychiatrist does.
Psychiatric treatment can provide many benefits for people struggling with their mental health and can be transformative. For example, treatment can provide clarity about what exactly is “wrong” – because many mental health conditions are not easy to identify and pinpoint. They commonly have a variety of causes which again makes it difficult to identify a specific disorder. An appointment with a psychiatrist (a doctor who specialises in mental health and mental illness) can provide an accurate diagnosis.
Seeing a psychiatrist may be the first step taken to work on their mental health or another step to working on themselves. By providing an accurate diagnosis, psychiatrists can develop a specific treatment plan that works well with the patient’s current health and mental health concerns. If followed, this treatment plan allows for positive change and personal growth, and so it can have a big positive effect on a person’s quality of life.
Dealing with mental health difficulties takes a toll on people and symptoms associated with mental health conditions negatively impact on their quality of life. Seeking a psychiatric assessment, receiving the accurate diagnosis and starting a tailored, personal treatment plan can lead to resolution of these symptoms. It is not an overstatement to say that seeing a psychiatrist can help you to get your life back.
A psychiatrist can provide clarity surrounding the issues you are having, can assess your physical health, can provide opportunities for personal growth, and in the fullness of time, improve the overall quality of your life.
