Self-promotion

On Thursday night I went to a meeting, one of the talks was about social media promotion. I sat there observing two women a bit younger than me, telling us from their own experience how regular posting on social media had increased their presence in the sector they work in.

As we are all well behaved and respectful people, it took a while before the question I wanted answering was never asked but was answered. What if your social media posting is rubbish? “So what!” she said, “if it bombs, probably no one has seen it!”

Then why do I struggle to do this?

I do not like what I look and sound like. I have to get over this. The photographer who took some shots for me, told me, everyone will just see, “Louisa”. The truth is I do not hide away from people, and people do not avoid me, so why is it so difficult to post a video of me saying something useful?

One patient told me, “fake it until you make it” with respect to her low self-confidence, as a young woman, she is going to fly, but her depression has not allowed her to see herself in that way.

There are other things you can do too, wear red! It is believed that red represents strength and resilience. It is believed that football teams who wear red shirts win more matches. I do know that Manchester City FC, won their first UEFA Champions League, won the Premier League and FA Cup this season, completing a continental treble and they play in blue.

If you are feeling subdued, try wearing red, orange or yellow. Wear green if you are stressed. Blue is calming. Purple can lift your mood and increase your energy. Black is the colour of power.

At the end of the presentation, I asked about how to get over myself and their answer was to do it every day, until it is a habit….
